If you are weary from sightseeing and shopping in Milan, and are looking for a tranquil setting, head to the lovely Monte Stella. Condition: You would need a little bit of energy to hike up the hill :).
If you are a fitness enthusiast, you could jog along the path here.
Monte Stella is a verdant location with various paths leading around and up the hill. This artificial hill was created from rubble resulting from WWII damage.
A short walk from the MM1 metro station QT8 took us to the base of the hill. The bright sunshine and clear blue sky provided a perfect setting for our enthusiastic hike along the little paths. It was difficult to believe that this serene hill was located in the busy capital of Lombardy. After several halts to closely examine insects and inhabitants of the park, we reached the top. At the summit, we gazed in various directions to (correctly) identify familiar landmarks in Milan.
Later, we settled on a bench with a view and munched on our picnic lunch. Ah, the pleasures of a picnic lunch after a hike :D!
With the hunger pangs satisfied, it was time for our descent.
But it wasn’t time to return home yet! The children’s play area at the base of Monte Stella had a huge “Welcome, Junior” sign. Well, almost :).
So, after a long play session, we finally headed to QT8 station for the return ride home.
Monte Stella is a lovely oasis of serenity in Milan. Now that spring is here, bask in the sunshine atop the hill!
