Drifting Along in Pichavaram

Looking for a change of scenery? Cruise along the East Coast Road, pass Pondicherry, and take a break at Pichavaram, near the temple town of Chidambaram. Drifting Along Drift along in a boat along the backwaters, sit back and marvel at the beautiful mangroves of Pichavaram. The tranquil location is a haven for birds. It was our first glimpse of this amazing ecosystem, and we were thrilled! India has the distinction of being home to the world’s largest (Sunderbans) and second largest (Pichavaram) mangrove forests.

Postcards from Bangkok: A Great Stopover Destination

The best stopover we’ve had till date? No doubts – Bangkok in 2007, on our return journey to Bangalore after an out-of-the-world trip to Beijing and Shanghai. With several hours to spare, we embarked on a whirlwind tour of the capital of Thailand, equipped with a great map. The sights of the city were spellbinding, the warmth and hospitality of the people was very touching. The beauty of Bangkok in our postcard pictures.

Cool Coonoor: A Cloudful of Memories (Part II)

After a lovely first day at Coonoor, we looked forward to what the next day had in store for us. Hiking through Coonoor It rained through the night, and there was a slight drizzle outside when we awoke. After breakfast, the drizzle had stopped, and we enthusiastically set off on a HIKE through Coonoor. It was a beautiful day, cloudy, cool, and perfect for a loooong walk in the hills.

Cool Coonoor: A Cloudful of Memories (Part I)

Every time I think of Coonoor, a charming little town in the Nilgiris, a cloudful of beautiful memories floats by. A few years ago, we spent a long weekend there. Coonoor beckons Steep slopes We reached Coimbatore in the early hours of the morning, after an overnight train journey by the Kanyakumari Express from Bangalore. Hurriedly gulping down some breakfast and tea, we took an auto to the bus stand.

The Vibrance of Barcelona, in pictures – II

There was more enchantment in store for us. Join me as I continue my rediscovery of vibrant Barcelona with more photographs from our trip (see The Vibrance of Barcelona, in pictures – I for the first post in this series). The majestic Sagrad Cor church on Mount Tibidabo. A ride on the metro train, followed by a ride on the funicular, a journey by bus and then, a lovely walk brought us to this destination.

The Vibrance of Barcelona, in pictures – I

During a wonderful trip to Europe in 2006, we spent a few days in the vibrant, colorful city of Barcelona in Spain. I was so fascinated by the place that even now, I have a little (OK, not-so-little :)) dream of owning a home there someday :). Here is a glimpse of Barca, captured by our camera. Our first views of the city - yachts docked at the port, near the Maritime Museum View of Barcelona from the Mirador de Colom (Columbus Monument).

Kabini Calling

The first ‘wild’ destination of the year 2009 was unanimously chosen – Kabini! After earlier visits to Jungle Lodges Resorts at Bandipur, Bannerghatta, K.Gudi (B R Hills), Dubare and Bheemeshwari, we decided to zoom towards Kabini River Lodge at Karapura this time. Naturalists at Bandipur and K Gudi had strongly recommended this resort to us. Day 1: Strong willpower (our day started at 4.30am!!! yawn..) and the motivating prospect of a great wilderness outing enabled us to wake up early.
