Venice (Venezia) in the Rains: A Magical Experience – I

We joined a friend’s family on a short trip to Venice (Venezia) in early spring this year. It rained during the entire trip (well, almost!). Dampener? Absolutely not! On the contrary, it was as magical as ever! πŸ™‚

This was our second visit to Venice (the Queen of the Adriatic had been on our travel itinerary a few years ago), the first time with Junior.

A 2-hour morning ride on a FrecciaBiancaΒ fast train transported us from Milano in the Lombardia region to the romantic city of Venezia in the Veneto region of Italy.

We checked in at Hotel Michelangelo in Mestre and were very satisfied with the comfortable and spacious room. A little later, we were on our way to Piazzale Roma, which, in addition to being the main bus stand in Venice, is also a major vaporetto (water bus) stop.

After a relaxed lunch, we bought a 36 hour Venice public transport pass and set off to explore Venice by vaporetto!

Although we were a little disappointed with the weather, it turned out that the cloudy skies and constant drizzle gave us a unique magical perspective.

Here are a few snapshots, a curtain raiser to a more detailed post about this trip and the magical city of Venice :).
